Wherever Shall I Get Married Tonight?

A Sampling of the Wedding Chapels in Las Vegas

A Sampling of the Wedding Chapels in Las Vegas

I think pretty much everyone knows that Las Vegas is the Wedding Capitol of the world.  It surprises me how many weddings actually take place here every year.  One statistic says that the Wedding Chapels of the West perform 120,000 weddings a year.  Thats 10,000 weddings a month.  Or approximately 300 weddings every day.  That is completely staggering to my mind.  For approximately $100 you can have your marriage license and get hitched within hours.   Maybe I need to move out here and re-start my wedding photography business.

The Beautiful Wedding Chapel at Mandalay Bay

You can get married at any time of the day, you can get married in a drive thru, you can get married by Darth Vader, Spiderman, Liza Minelli, etc.  If a wedding on the strip seems cheap, then go to any hotel and you will see a wide variety of wedding chapels, but none compares to the chapel in Mandalay Bay. This one is pure class.  Let’s face it.  This hotel is pure class, and my wife and I found it to be a refreshing change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the strip and pretty much every other hotel.  Be sure and check it out if you are ever in Las Vegas.

Most Famous of the Wedding Chapels

But, of course, the most well-known wedding chapel of all is the Little Church of the West Wedding Chapel.  This little church has actually moved several times.  When the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas welcome sign moves, this little chapel moves with it.  It seems that there is a tradition for people to get married at this venue and then immediately cross the street and have their photograph made under the iconic sign.  Famous couples married in this church include Angelina Jolie & Billy Bob Thornton, Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford, Betty Grable and Harry James, Jodie Sweetin and Cody Herpin, and Judy Garland and Mark Herron.  Hmmm, not too good of a track record there, is it?

Suffice it to say, if you really have to get married in a hurry, Las Vegas is the place to do it.  And you can book me to shoot the wedding, as long as you also fly me out there and put me up in the Mandalay Bay hotel…or the Luxor…or Caesar’s Palace…oooh, or the Wynn!
